The last two weeks have turned my attention to the visitors side of the field. The basic steel structure was simple enough (see below); the big challenge has been construction of the handicap ramp.

My first attempt at the ramp, just visible above, led to experimentation on the handrail system for the entire park. I can't say that I have it down, but after tearing out my first try the second attempt was at least passable. There is a lot of handrail work to do on the stadium; hopefully a better system will present itself.

The second challenge has been the installation of the lights under the stands. I set eleven new lights, bringing the total to twenty lights under the stadium. All of the wiring runs under the model - as may be seen below, I've got a good bit of wiring to complete.

Here are a couple of pictures of the near-complete handicap ramp with its handrails. Most of the cross braces for the stadium uprights is also in place.


Finally, a fly-by shot of the bigger picture as it stands today. The next two tasks are 1) to install the aluminum deck on the steel framework behind home plate and on the visitors side, and 2) to connect all the wiring beneath the stadium. Once these are done it will be time to plant some trees, go back to work on the major buildings, and - to begin building the field lights for the stadium (I estimate 200 tiny LED lights will do the job!).

Progress Report - October 18

This week continued focus on the bleachers/grand stand on the first base side of the field. To begin, I set the lower and upper support steel. Then I turned electrician and installed the lights under the bleachers for the sidewalk areas.

While I would not want to catch a pitch in the bullpen - at least there is some light now (more to come). In the photo below, it looks like the grass needs to be clipped.

With the support steel and lights in place I place the deck for the bleachers & seats.

In the photo below you can see the backstop screen in the bullpen that I built this week. (The concession stand is temporarily moved for the sake of the picture)

Finally, a "Blimp" picture of the field in-progress. The fencing along the first base side and in front of the dugout is complete, and I have trimmed and painted the fence posts at the very bottom of the picture.

October 8 progress report.

After two full months of work Crutcher Scott Field (in miniature) is beginning to take shape. The first picture below shows the basic layout - field, buildings in various states of progress, and a bit of the "steel work" for the bleachers coming up.

A closer view of the steel work (balsa) and the bullpen area. While the basic form of the bleachers is taking shape I have not yet begun to add the actual seats or bleachers on top of the seating areas.

Most of the field/grass is near finished. Some final touches in transition areas are still needed and - as you can see - a variety of lines are still lacking. I'm working on the templates to enable me to spray these on in the next few days. At the bottom of the photo below the hitting facility is visible (still lacking the installation of overhead doors); top of the foul pole is also just visible at the very bottom of the picture.

One last picture for today, looking from the bullpen up the sidewalk to the dugout. Although not visible here, I have installed lights above the sidewalk (as at the stadium itself).

Much left to do, but that is the pleasure of the hobby.
